Be sure to read the following email security tips, and forgive me if you've heard this before.
1. Your bank/brokerage/PayPal/eBay will NEVER ask to you click a link in an email for updating/changing/verifying your account. This practice is generally a SCAM!
Many scammers (phishers) will send emails that look like they came from your bank telling you that there was some problem with your account or that your online bankings privileges have been suspended. The email will ask you to "click here" to verify information. When you click the link in the email you will most likely be redirected to a site that LOOKS like your bank's site but is really an alternate website designed to get your username/password and account information.
If you have any questions or doubts, CALL YOUR BANK, etc., INSTEAD!
2. Unless you really trust the sender of an email, NEVER CLICK LINKS WITHIN AN EMAIL.
As described above, people can modify links in emails such that you, the user, believe you are going to one website, when in fact you are being taken to a different site (that may or may not look similar to the site you intended to browse).
Play it safe and TYPE the web address by hand into your browser.
Remember, if an email sounds strange, then it probably is!
